T90 Codends Improve the Size Selectivity and Catch Efficiency of Shrimp Trawl Fisheries for Southern Velvet Shrimp (Metapenaeopsis palmensis) in the South China Sea

In order to obtain gear-based management instruments of shrimp trawl fishery for southern velvet in the South China Sea (SCS), size selectivity and catch efficiency four codends were tested compared. These included two mesh sizes, 30 35 mm, shapes, T0 (diamond-mesh) T90 (diamond-mesh turned by 90°), respectively. Our results demonstrated that increasing mesh-sizes or/and applying would statistically significantly improve efficiency. Comparing tested, accounting previous study, we conclude codend with a mm (T0_35) or (T90_30) be potential choices mitigating bycatch issue undersized individuals (Metapenaeopsis palmensis) SCS.
